CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami junior linebacker Marques Gayot announced today that he has elected to leave the Hurricanes’ football program in order to pursue other opportunities.

Gayot saw action in three games, tallied 7.0 tackles (5.0 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks this past season. He missed the final 10 games of the year after he suffered a season-ending injury during practice.

As a freshman, Gayot played in six games and saw a majority of his action on special teams.

He arrived in Coral Gables following a successful playing career at Park Vista High School in Lake Worth, Fla., where he was named Defensive Player of the Year by the Palm Beach Post. He was also a Sweet 11 pick by Prep Builders.
